The Accident
(by Shaun Sykes)

Composed on March 14, 1996

Driving along, you hear
Sirens for miles
Cars honking their horns
Traffic in piles.

Debris covers the road -
Its a mess out here.
An accident has happened
and chaos ensues.

Police and paramedics
Rush to this awful scene
The feeling is grim,
Do you know what I mean?

Road blocks are put up on both
sides of the highway.
Boy, this is a huge and nasty
accident.I see six cars,
two buses and three trucks!

Smashed metal, bent railings,
Glass everywhere.
People are bleeding
But the crowd doesn't care!

Victims are cared for
Some bodies are cold
Vehicles catch on fire
Run, if you're told!

Come on you jerks! Why do
you hold up the flow of traffic?
There's not much to see here.
Let the authorities handle it.
Is the sight of blood or the
body count that important
to you?

Who's fault was it,
The road and our weather
is fine.
Did some indecision
Disrupt so many lives?

We may never know the answer to that.
Ah, finally, traffic resumes.
Its a real crying shame
that we go on with our day,
while this brief tradegy
has touched only few.

Radios announce briefly
Aviod the highway we're on
A major accident
has happened,
And some lives are gone.
